The Library of Shanghai University of Engineering Science boasts a rich collection of resources, including print and electronic books, periodicals, and various reference materials. It operates under standardized management and achieves high-level resource sharing. The library not only fully meets students' learning needs but also provides strong support for teachers' daily teaching and research work. Equipped with an adequate number of computer devices and connected to the campus wireless network, the library enables students to conveniently access various information resource platforms and the Internet in computer labs, classrooms and public areas, and obtain the required teaching resources through multiple channels. For key links such as literature retrieval for core courses, research projects, experimental teaching, course design and graduation design, the library offers targeted support to help students efficiently utilize the collection and online resources, complete literature retrieval, problem analysis, and evaluation of domestic and international research status, thus effectively supporting them in meeting graduation requirements.
2. University Library Resources
In accordance with the university's disciplinary and professional layout of "focusing on engineering and technology, with economics and management, and art and design as the two wings", the Library of Shanghai University of Engineering Science collects various professional documents. It has six functional departments and one office: the Resource Development Department, the Promotion and Publicity Department, the Reader Service Department, the Information Service Department, the System Management Department, and the Party and Administration Office. As of August 2024, the library has a collection of more than 2 million Chinese and foreign print documents and about 3,300 kinds of Chinese and foreign print periodicals. In recent years, the library has increased investment in the construction of the digital library, providing access to 1.78 million kinds of e-books and 56 Chinese and foreign databases.The Chinese databases include CNKI, Wanfang Data, China National Knowledge Infrastructure for National Research, Wenquan Academy, etc. The foreign databases include IEEE, ACS, SCIFinder, ASME, SpringerLink, EBSCOHost, Emerald, EI, PQDD, SCI, SSCI, Wiley, ESI, JCR, Incites, etc., as well as multimedia databases such as New Oriental and Kuke Digital Music Library. The library is open from 8:00 to 22:00 seven days a week. The multi-carrier collection resources have broadened service channels and provided effective literature support for teaching and research of all teachers and students in the university.
To meet the development needs of the university, the Songjiang Campus Library and the Changning Campus Library Branch have been built successively.
2.1 Songjiang Campus Library
Completed and put into use in October 2005, the Songjiang Campus Library has a total construction area of more than 27,000 square meters. It houses 6 book reading rooms, 1 periodical reading room, 1 information commons, 1 innovation commons and 4 stack rooms, with approximately 3,000 reading seats. Adopting an open-shelf mode integrating borrowing and reading, the library provides wireless Internet access on campus and remote VPN access off campus.
As a teaching and research service-oriented library with complete functions, diverse literature carriers, a well-structured team of professionals and advanced facilities, the Songjiang Campus Library features prominent characteristics of serving teaching, research, discipline construction, degree program development, as well as meeting the documentary needs of building a characteristic university and the economic development of the Shanghai area. Adhering to the library tenet of "Readers First, Service Supreme", it adopts a variety of modern service methods and measures to provide high-quality services. Its main services include document lending, book recommendation and purchase, interlibrary loan, document delivery, sci-tech novelty retrieval, database search, reading promotion, special lectures and campus culture construction.
2.2 Changning Campus Library Branch
Completed and put into use in November 2024, the Changning Campus Library Branch is located on the 3rd floor of the South Building of the Industry-Education Integration Building in the Changning Campus, with a total construction area of 678 square meters and 205 reading seats. It can hold a total collection of 4,000 books covering various professional fields such as literature, history and science and technology. The e-book lending machine provides more than 3,000 kinds of e-books, with at least 150 volumes updated monthly.
The branch adopts a two-way access control system to manage personnel access, which is linked with anti-theft devices to realize automatic alarm and lockout, and readers can enter and exit by swiping cards. The book management adopts RFID intelligent bookshelves, which can automatically identify the books on the shelves. Readers can realize self-service functions such as book borrowing and returning, bibliographic information inquiry and personal borrowing record inquiry through three terminals including the side panels of bookshelves and self-service book borrowing and returning machines, enjoying all-round intelligent services.
As a pilot for the intelligent library management of the university, the Changning Campus Library Branch strives to develop into a prototype of the future learning center integrating a learning center, a social center, a leisure center, a creation center and a knowledge center.

In recent years, the university has vigorously promoted the construction of the digital library and launched the "Chaoxing Mobile Library", enabling teachers and students to access library resources anytime and anywhere via smartphones or iPads (Client download address: http://m.5read.com/appdown.html).
This course explicitly requires teachers to make full use of computer, network and library resources in the teaching process. In experimental courses, course design, professional practice, graduation design and most professional courses for junior and senior students, teachers guide students to carry out learning with the help of reference documents and network resources, including literature collection and screening, reference book reading, foreign language material translation and preliminary formulation of experimental schemes. Learning outcomes are evaluated through assignments and course reports submitted by students.
The university and the library have set up a number of computer network service stations to provide convenience for students without network access. Relying on the university library and network resources, teachers can timely track global scientific research trends and professional frontiers, thus improving their teaching and research levels. The Chinese and foreign database resources of the university library are shown in Table 1, and the academic journal catalogs related to this major are shown in Table 2 and Table 3.

In addition, the library helps students systematically master the use of major-related databases and network resources through the "Information Retrieval" course and a series of lectures.
The university library has rich, systematic and easily shareable professional resources. For the Textile Engineering major, the university and the school have continuously strengthened the construction of professional book and information resources to fully meet the resource support requirements for students' learning, teachers' teaching and research, and professional certification. The collection includes more than 3,000 books on textile engineering and more than 30 kinds of periodicals, covering textile material science, spinning and weaving technology, dyeing and finishing processes, textile design, textile chemistry, textile machinery and automation, intelligent textiles and cutting-edge textile technologies. The per capita book ownership of students in this major exceeds 300%.
The university has formulated a series of management systems for the sharing of computer, network and library resources, including Borrowing Rules of the Library of Shanghai University of Engineering Science, Rules for the Handling of Violations of the Library of Shanghai University of Engineering Science, Detailed Rules for Document Delivery of the Library of Shanghai University of Engineering Science, Borrowing Rules of the Special Collection Stack Room of the Library of Shanghai University of Engineering Science, Regulations on the Use of Public Inquiry Computers in the Library of Shanghai University of Engineering Science, Library Entry Regulations of Shanghai University of Engineering Science, Rules for the Use of the Commons of Shanghai University of Engineering Science, Introduction and Borrowing Rules of the Marxist Theory Literature Center, Rules of the Information Office Core Data Center, Measures for Network Server Hosting, Campus Information and Network Security Management Regulations, Website Management and Information Release Regulations and Regulations on the Use of Campus Network Mail. The sharing and utilization of resources are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
Construction of dynamic service platforms: Establish dynamic department web pages with friendly links and service modules such as information commons. The library's WeChat official account sends about 60 messages and nearly 100 articles annually; it receives and replies to nearly 100 online consultations every year, an average of 2-3 times a week.
Information commons: A 1,200-square-meter information commons has been built, with multimedia areas, leisure areas, experience areas and discussion areas. Equipped with computers, ergonomic seats, network, power supply, high-precision 3D printers and other facilities, it supports learning and communication, new technology experience and academic lectures, and operates efficiently.
Self-service document printing services: Provide self-service printing, copying and scanning terminals with an annual output of about 200,000 pages (220,000 pages in 2019), greatly facilitating teachers and students to obtain library resources.
Intelligent seat management: Realize the information-based management of reading room seats through the seat management system, with nearly 500,000 seat reservations by card swiping annually.
Digital resource utilization: The mobile library records 275,000 logins and 1.2 million clicks annually; the digital library self-service terminals record 74,000 e-book downloads annually.
2.3 School-level Library Resources
The College of Textiles and Fashion has a school-level public library reading room in the Art Building, located in Room A301 (about 80 square meters). It has a total collection of more than 4,800 books (including more than 1,200 books on textile engineering and fashion design) with a total value of about 550,000 RMB. The periodical collection covers professional journals and industry cutting-edge magazines such as Journal of Textile Research, Fashion Designer, Printing and Dyeing and Textile Guide, which can meet the needs of professional learning and scientific research. The collection of books is updated regularly to ensure the timeliness of resources. The reading room is managed by a designated specialist of the college and implements an extended opening hour system; teachers and students can access materials freely after registration. Equipped with reading tables and chairs, it is for on-site use by teachers and students, and books are not available for external borrowing for the time being.
The university is well-equipped with computer resources, and the equipment related to this major is mainly distributed in the library, computer center and college laboratories.
The library has 100 computers open 24 hours a day, providing free access for teachers and students to conduct book retrieval, information inquiry and study the "Information Retrieval" course, which effectively improves students' ability to use digital resources.
The Computer Center has 4 classrooms and 10 laboratories with a total of 950 computers. Undertaking the teaching of courses such as Fundamentals of Computer Application, C Language Programming and Python, it fully meets the teaching needs of this major in programming and computer application.
4. Information Resource Platforms
4.1 Campus Network Infrastructure
The campus network has an outbound bandwidth of 2.3G, a core backbone bandwidth of 10G and a desktop access bandwidth of 1G. The wired network covers all teaching, research and office areas and implements unified identity authentication. Since 2015, the campus has achieved full coverage of wireless network (Wi-Fi), providing a solid network support for undergraduate teaching and management.
4.2 Campus Information Basic Platforms
The university has built three basic platforms:
Shared database platform: Integrates data from human resources, scientific research, academic affairs, student management, postgraduate education and other systems to realize cross-departmental data sharing and exchange.
Integrated service platform for teachers and students: Provides one-stop access to information on student affairs, academic affairs, finance, library, campus card and living services.
(3) Unified identity authentication platform: Provides unified user management and login services for various smart campus applications.
4.3 Campus Smart Card
The campus card integrates functions such as catering consumption, book borrowing, attendance check-in, access control, medical registration, and can be used as a substitute for employee ID cards and student ID cards. It has become an essential tool for teachers and students in their daily study and work.
4.4 Course Center Platform
The university's Course Center is an online platform integrating network-assisted teaching, resource co-construction and sharing, and management services. Currently hosting more than 2,500 courses, it supports teachers in course construction and management and students in independent online learning. This platform promotes the update of teaching concepts, real-time resource sharing and interaction between teachers and students, and is an important carrier for carrying out blended teaching and cultivating students' autonomous learning ability.
4.5 Teaching Management Information System
As the core platform for the university to organize and implement teaching management and operation, this system covers the whole process of timetabling, course selection, grade management and quality evaluation. Students can select courses, evaluate teaching and inquire about grades through the system; teachers can release teaching arrangements, manage grades and inquire about student information.
4.6 Graduation Design Management Platform
Relying on the "Bachelor's Thesis Management Information Platform", the college conducts the whole-process information-based management of graduation design, supporting teachers to release research topics, students to select topics, process monitoring, mid-term inspection and defense arrangement, so as to ensure the quality of theses.
4.7 Barrier-free and Supportive Environment
The whole university realizes full wireless network coverage in offices, laboratories, lecture halls and the library. The equipment of the Computer Center is updated regularly as needed to support remote operation and virtual reality applications. All newly built teaching places are equipped with barrier-free facilities to ensure equal access to resources for all students.
The university has built a safe, efficient and scalable information-based campus environment, fully realizing full network coverage, digital management, platform-based resources and integrated services, which strongly supports students' learning and teachers' teaching and research activities.
