In order to deepen cooperation between China and Italy in fashion education and the textile and apparel sector, and to jointly explore new models for cultivating internationally oriented talent, on the afternoon of March 19, 2025, the School of Textile and Fashion of Shanghai University of Engineering Science and Istituto Marangoni held a meeting on international exchange and cooperation in Room C210 of the Arts Building. The visiting delegation from Istituto Marangoni included Ms. Cheng Yingting, Chief Executive Officer for China and the Asia-Pacific Region, Ms. Du Juanjuan, Market Development Manager, and Ms. Tan Hengheng, Market Development Supervisor. Participants from the School of Textile and Fashion included Dean Xin Binjie, Associate Dean Qu Hongjian, Mr. Zhou Zhipeng, Head of the Department of Fashion and Apparel Design, and Ms. Yang Shu, Secretary for International Exchange.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dean Xin Binjie gave a detailed introduction to the distinctive characteristics and achievements of the School of Textile and Fashion. The School actively promotes international exchange and cooperation programs through joint education models such as “3+1” and “1+1+1.” In addition, it regularly organizes short-term international study programs during winter and summer vacations, as well as academic guidance from internationally renowned scholars, in order to strengthen external exchanges for both faculty and students. The School also stages an annual graduation fashion show open to the public and participates in Beijing College Student Fashion Week, continuously expanding its influence within the industry.

Subsequently, Ms. Cheng Yingting provided a comprehensive overview of Istituto Marangoni’s background, history, and path of international development. She noted that since 2003, Istituto Marangoni has accelerated its global expansion, establishing campuses in London, Paris, Florence and other cities, and is now planning to launch its first metaverse-based online campus. Ms. Cheng also presented proposals for cooperation with Shanghai University of Engineering Science, including semester-based exchange programs and tuition discount policies, emphasizing that, by drawing on Istituto Marangoni’s strengths in fashion and textiles, the two institutions can offer more opportunities for international practice and academic development to their faculty and students.

Finally, the two sides held in-depth discussions on cooperation models, curriculum alignment, language requirements, tuition standards, and other specific issues. Both parties suggested that cooperation models should be dynamically adjusted in light of students’ needs, with priority given to flexible academic structures such as the “3+1” and “2+2” programs, while also exploring mechanisms for joint talent cultivation and faculty training. In addition, they agreed to strengthen curriculum alignment in fields such as fashion design and textile engineering, and to encourage students to participate in international competitions and internships in order to enhance their capacity for innovation. The successful convening of this cooperation meeting has injected new impetus into the internationalization strategy of the School of Textile and Fashion at Shanghai University of Engineering Science, and has contributed the wisdom and strength of higher education to Shanghai’s development as a “fashion capital.”
